About Dr. Alireza Chizari —
Functional Neurologist in Calabasas
Everything Looks Normal: The two words that changed Dr. Chizari's life — and built this clinic.
When his mother suffered a concussion, every scan came back clean. But she wasn't herself, and the system had no answers. That gap — between what tests show and what patients actually live — is why Dr. Alireza Chizari, DC, DACNB, left a career in electrical engineering and started over. California Brain & Spine Center exists to close it.

Why he does this work
It started with his mother
Dr. Alireza Chizari, DC, DACNB, began in a completely different world — years immersed in electrical engineering, in systems, patterns, and precision. Logical, structured, predictable.
Then his mother suffered a concussion. Like so many others, the family was told everything was "normal." Her scans, her MRIs — nothing showed anything wrong. But the reality they were living told a very different story. She wasn't herself. There was a disconnect between what the tests showed and what she was experiencing, and they found themselves searching for answers in a system that didn't have them.
They refused to accept that as the end of the story. Eventually the search led to a functional neurologist — someone who approached the brain not just through structure, but through function. Through detailed neurological testing and a personalized plan, his mother began to improve. Gradually, but unmistakably, she started getting her life back.
The path here
From circuits to the nervous system
An unusual route to functional neurology — and exactly what makes his approach to complex cases different.
The foundation
Electrical Engineering
A B.S. in Electrical Engineering in Iran, then a master's in Advanced Engineering & Management in the UK — training the analytical habits of mind that still shape how he reads a nervous system: patterns, thresholds, feedback loops, and measurable change.
The turning point
His Mother's Concussion
Every scan came back clean, yet she clearly wasn't herself. Watching someone you love struggle while being told there's nothing to fix revealed a gap in healthcare he couldn't unsee — patients falling through simply because their symptoms don't fit what imaging can capture.
The decision
Starting Over
He walked away from a stable career that already looked successful — years of new education, financial pressure, and rebuilding from scratch — to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West, specializing in the precise Gonstead technique. Not the easiest path, but the right one.
The specialization
Diplomate, American Chiropractic Neurology Board
Postdoctoral education in Clinical Neuroscience and board certification in functional neurology (DACNB). Today he is Clinical Director and Owner of California Brain & Spine Center — working daily with patients who arrive with the same story his family once did.
Our mission
Empowering healing, one patient at a time
California Brain & Spine Center was built around a simple but often overlooked idea: just because something doesn't show up on a scan doesn't mean it isn't real. Every decision here is guided by three values.
Integrity
Honest clinical communication over marketing language. We tell you what we find, what may help, and when something is outside our scope.
Compassion
You're the one living with the symptoms — and you deserve to feel heard, measured carefully, and guided step by step, not told to push through it.
Innovation
We embrace advances in neuroscience — non-invasive, evidence-informed tools — while keeping technology in service of a human-centered plan.
Our facility
Designed for healing and clarity
Our Calabasas facility reflects a dedication to excellence in every detail. From the moment you walk through the door, the environment is designed to inspire comfort, trust, and hope — from the diagnostic rooms to the treatment areas, each space thoughtfully arranged to support your experience and your outcomes.
We use state-of-the-art technology and non-invasive techniques to work through even complex conditions — helping patients recover faster, feel stronger, and live better. More than a clinic, it's a place where every patient is treated like family.

Expertise with a human touch
Function over structure
- We don't only ask what the brain looks like — we ask how it's actually working
- Advanced diagnostics: eye-movement analysis, balance testing, objective brain-based measurements
- Subtle dysfunctions identified that conventional settings often miss
- Non-invasive, personalized programs — never a protocol template
- A single clinical lead who knows your case start to finish
Many patients have already seen multiple providers and left with more questions than answers. Part of the work is rebuilding trust — helping people understand their symptoms are real, even when tests said otherwise.
Who we help
- Concussion and traumatic brain injury recovery
- Dizziness and balance disorders
- Dysautonomia and autonomic dysfunction
- Headaches and migraines
- Brain fog, memory concerns, and post-concussion symptoms
Many arrive after being told everything looks normal while they still can't function normally. That's exactly the gap this practice was built to close.
In his own words
"Normal" doesn't always mean optimal
So many people are quietly living with symptoms that affect their daily lives — dizziness, brain fog, fatigue, headaches — while being told everything is "normal." That experience can be incredibly isolating. But just because something hasn't been explained yet doesn't mean it isn't real. The brain is remarkably adaptable: with the right approach, the right testing, and the right guidance, meaningful change is possible — even for people who have lost hope.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Chizari finds balance through photography, fitness, and Persian cuisine. The same curiosity that once took him from engineering to neuroscience shows up in how carefully he listens to each patient's story.
This work has always been about more than treatment — it's about restoring a sense of possibility. When someone starts to feel like themselves again, even in small ways, it changes everything.
Dr. Chizari shared this story in a community interview with VoyageLA.
